Supporting Our Library
Planned Giving
A planned gift is a great way to invest in the future of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library through the Friends, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) key advocates of this effort. View our most recent Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, and/or confirm our taxpayer Identification number (TIN) 12-3456789 online with the IRS. Many options are available and the Friends will assist you in determining which of the following options below best meet your donation parameters and objectives, including:
Bequests
The simplest and most common way to make a planned gift is to leave a bequest in your will, made out to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library Fund, under the auspices of the Pittsburgh Foundation. Bequests are simple to establish, although a brief consultation with your attorney is recommended whenever you are creating or making changes to your will.
Cash and Securities
A gift of cash or securities is deductible for federal income tax purposes. Marketable appreciated securities may provide donors with the greatest tax benefit. It is always recommended you seek instructions from your financial advisor before transferring stock.
Life Insurance and Annuities
Naming the Library as a beneficiary of your insurance product is an easy and inexpensive way to financially support the Library.
IRA and Retirement Plans
Patrons may make tax free, qualified charitable distribution from their RA and retirement plans.
Trusts
Provide patrons with income for their lives and benefit the Library thereafter. A trust can also provide income to the Library during the donor’s lifetimes with the remainder reverting as the patrons directs.
We welcome the opportunity to talk to you about making the Mount Lebanon Public Library a part of your legacy. If you are considering making any of the above planned gifts, please contact First Last, (###) ###-####, email@domain.com for further information. Some gifts may be designated as unrestricted – affording the Library the greatest flexibility in responding to urgent needs - or restricted to a special purpose and should be considered in this dialogue.
Memorial Gifts
Memorial gifts are made in honor of a deceased supporting the Library during their life and had a meaningful personal connection to our cause. Typically, a person who passes away might request their family and friends make memorial donations in their memory, or a family member -or- have a family member/friend might establish a memorial fund in their honor.
In addition, memorial gifts are given to:
Honor a loved one.
Support the Library, an organization that was important to the deceased.
Help the deceased's legacy continue.
Vehicle Donation
You can donate a vehicle to the Library through a nonprofit organization that supports the library. Donating a vehicle will raise money for Library programs. The Friends have partnered with TBD - options include Vehicles for Charity, ents to pick up your donation. Hree are some Program FAQs:
What can I donate?
You can donate most any vehicle, incluuding cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and recreational vehicles. They do not have to be currently running. Your vehicle donation will be sold at an auction or to salvage depending on condition.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, Friends is a non-profit charity organization (TIN: 12-3456789) and all donations qualify as a charitable deduction on your federal income tax return.
What do I need to donate my car?
The title to the car must be in your name. We will also need some information about where the car is located and the condition of the car. This will assist us in scheduling appropriate towing arrangements.
Will you pick up my car?
A towing company will call you to schedule the pick-up of your vehicle. You will need to give the driver the keys to the vehicle as well as your signed title.
How is the value of my car determined?
The IRS allows you to take a charitable tax deduction on your federal income tax form equal to the amount the vehicle sells for at auction unless it sells for less than $500. If your vehicle sells for less than $500 you may deduct no more than $500. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you will need to include the IRS form 1098C. Vehicles for Charity will supply this documentation after your vehicle sells. We recommend you consult your tax advisor with questions about your deduction.
